Erotic : Alter
December 2020 prvided a magical window of time where it was possible to hold an exhibition of works create through the pandemic.
The show was on for a fortnight and was a space of ritual, transformation and creative engagement, mixing, sound, ceremony and artworks.
Sophia showed three corresponding chapters of works aside with moving image and a collaborative instillation created with visitors who shared in the space.
As well as artworks and a sound instillation, Sophia created a space where the community could write down their burdens and create an instillation with them, then invite a blessing to be made in its place. This ritual was supported both by fire and water. with the burdens being burned on the eve of the winter solstice, to make way for the blessings which were made by lighting a candle which was then floated in sea water collected each day. this was then returned to the ocean each evening so that the blessings could travel back to source to be carried out by the great unknown.
All works are available on to purchase on this site.
I was supported in this exhibition by printing and framing by Blue Swift Framers based here in Ramsgate.
